PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD RAISES OVER $85,000 FOR CARMICHAEL OUTREACH
(Regina, SK) Play with Your Food (PwYF) is a Regina-based community organization of board gamers that has been fundraising to fight food insecurity, poverty, and homelessness in Regina since 2013. With an initial 2024/25 target of raising $60,000, PwYF has already surpassed this amount with more to come before the end of the campaign on March 31, all of which goes directly to Carmichael Outreach.
This year’s campaign includes over 120 participants from all over Saskatchewan. Participants organize in teams to run small independent events to raise funds, which then go directly to Carmichael Outreach. This is the tenth edition of PwYF, which was started in 2013 by Matt Robertson in honor of his mother, Evelyn. Including the amount raised this year, PwYF has raised more than $400,000 since 2013 for local charities in Regina.
“As a charity and non-profit organization, every dollar raised is crucial for us,” says Chrysta Garner, Development Coordinator at Carmichael Outreach. “With costs increasing across the board, there has been a growing demand for our services. Over the past year, we have observed a significant rise in the number of meals served and access to our services. The money PwYF raises guarantees the sustainability of our programs and helps overcome any obstacles we may face.”
“It’s amazing what the community can do when we come together,” says PwYF Co-chair Chelsea Low. “From cribbage to crokinole. There are a variety of board game nights and other non-gaming activities that provide something for everyone in Regina. PwYF events are open to the public! Not only do you get to enjoy a fun night out, you get to feel good knowing you’re making a difference in our community.”
Media is invited to join us on Saturday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m. at The Owl multi-purpose room in the Riddell Centre at the University of Regina for opening remarks at our annual campaign 24-hour board gaming event, with media availability to follow.
