Fundraising Tips : What works?
Our fundraising is well underway already, with a few successful events already under our belts! Here are some great tips about organizing and getting a fundraiser going from some of our seasoned veterans…
Start Early!
The early bird gets the dollars! Start planning your event early so you can be less stressed, have a longer lead up to advertise, have more options in your planning process and have more time to make sure you’re going to get it right (and have FUN!). Giving yourself a six week run up for advertising and planning is great!
Talk to your friends!
Word of mouth is one of the best ways to get folks excited and interested in your upcoming event! Talk to people personally and make sure they know what you’re up to. Sometimes, if people aren’t able to actually attend your event, they may want to make a donation in place of buying a ticket! Win, win!
Set a goal!
Having a goal for your team and your event is a great way to keep yourselves moving forward and a great way to interact with your audience too! If they know you have a specific goal in mind, perhaps they can help you acheive it!
Little things mean a lot!
Small events can add up too! Remember that people’s time runs out quickly.. but small events like a simple “Guess the number of dice in the jar” games can rack up funds quickly!
Show appreciation!
Show appreciation after the event by thanking folks publicially and letting the world know of your successes! This will keep folks wanting to come back for more and support you next time! Send an email or a message to let them know how you did and keep them ready to come to your next event!
Remember those hidden costs…
Don’t forget to factor in all of those hidden costs that might get forgotten during the planning process! Taxes, tips and fees can all add up!
Don’t reinvent the wheel!
Don’t be afraid to talk to your PwYF coach! They might have experience in whatever event you might be thinking of hosting and perhaps they can lend some advice around locations, costs, suppliers, etc! We have a wealth of knowledge in our midst!
Think outside our gaming community!
Don’t forget that there is a whole world outside our gaming community! What kinds of events could you host that would tap into the funds and excitement of another community in our city? We’ve already seen BBQ events, tea tasting and a drag brunch! What ideas do YOU have?
