Play with Your Food raises $42,000+ for Carmichael Outreach

(Regina, SK) On Saturday, March 25th, more than 90 board gamers will gather to take part in a celebratory 24-hour board gaming event called Play with Your Food (PwYF). What are they celebrating? Raising $42,575.02 in just over seven months for Carmichael Outreach, to fight food insecurity, poverty, and homelessness in Regina.

In September 2022, PwYF set out to raise $15,000. In early December, this goal was achieved and PwYF set a new goal of $25,000. The second goal was surpassed in mid-January and PwYF determined the sky was the limit. In 2023, PwYF raised the most money out of any previous events. In eight years, including 2023, PwYF has raised more than $255,000 for Regina charities.

“Finding solutions to challenges is the very basis of board gaming,” said Matt Robertson, PwYF co-chair. “While the gaming community in Regina gathers and enjoys a good challenge at the game table, we realized we can also find solutions to broader issues facing Regina – food security being one of those, and this year, with our help, Carmichael Outreach is able to address some of those needs.”

“This is a significant amount of money,” said Amanda Benesh, Development Coordinator for Carmichael Outreach, “it equates to 24,094 meals, it costs Carmichael approximately $11,812 a month to feed between 250-300 meals a day throughout the year.”  The event runs from 10:00 a.m. March 25th to 10:00 a.m. March 26th, at the University of Regina.

Media is invited at 1:00 p.m. to speak with the co-chairs and get some photos and videos to highlight the significance of this event. Additional information about the event can be found here.
