PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD RAISES $66,497+ FOR CARMICHAEL OUTREACH
(Regina, SK) On Saturday, March 23rd, more than 120 board gamers will gather to take part in a celebratory 24-hour board gaming event called Play with Your Food (PwYF). What are they celebrating? Raising $66,497.00 to fight food insecurity, poverty, and homelessness via the 2023/24 PwYF Campaign for Carmichael Outreach.
In June 2023, PwYF set out to raise $40,000 – that goal was well surpassed. In the last two years, PwYF has raised more than $111,965 for Carmichael Outreach. Since 2013 (with a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic), PwYF has raised more than $324,000 for Regina charities.
“As a non-profit organization, every dollar raised is crucial for us,” said Chrysta Garner, Development Coordinator at Carmichael Outreach. “With costs increasing across the board, there has been a growing demand for our services. Over the past year, we have observed a significant rise in the number of meals served, food hampers distributed, and all programs operating at full capacity. The funds raised will guarantee the sustainability of these programs and help overcome any obstacles they may face.”
“It’s amazing what a community can do when they come together,” said Chelsea Low, PwYF co-chair. “From cornhole, steak nights, cribbage & crokinole tournaments to board game events, mario kart tournaments, and paint nights, there’s literally something for everyone in the community, whether you’re part of PwYF or not. By supporting PwYF events, not only do you get to enjoy a fun night out, you get the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping those in need in our community.”
Media is invited for opening remarks beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the University of Regina. A group photo will take place at 10:30 a.m., media availability to follow. Additional information about the campaign can be found here.
